So yes, every once in a while, I decide to give my phone a make-over. Up until a few months ago, I had the same case for roughly two years. Two years! I had friends with babies younger than my phone case. It lasted longer than a lot of marriages. Two years with a phone case is a commitment, filled with compromises and sacrifices, but it's worth it. But I'm shallow. The scratches and chipped paint were no longer regarded as fond battle scars. The magic had gone and it was time for me to upgrade. Get a new, shiny, trophy phone case.
Society6 it was.
Every time I have no money, Society6 decides to throw free shipping my way. Terribly kind of them, isn't it? All the prints, totes, shirts, doona covers I could possibly dream of owning, but no moolah. Such is life, you know?
But Society6, man (girrrrllll), is a site I could spend hours perusing. And it's my go-to for a unique, cool, express yo'self phone case. It's not an easy decision, trying to decide between typography or landscapes or patterns, but when my eyes fell upon my young lady!hero, the decision was automatic. I am a strong, sensual woman. Why not let that be the words, the mantra, to get me through my day?
This baby is $35, available for iPhone 4, 5, and some Samsung models, of which I do not know exactly or really care to know. But it's amazing and those that get the reference, love it, and for those that don't, it just cements in their mind how weird I am, which I love even more. <3
007: on the days when I hate all my shoes...

...I head to Windsor Smith. Sure, it's pricey. Sure, I can't afford to do it every time I have a footwear crisis. But on the weeks when I haven't yet spent my entire paycheque, on the weeks I decide to forgo food for, ahem, necessities, I do. Oh, I most definitely do.
Spring has sprung, for lack of a better expression, and last season it was my Lily's, this season, I've decided to go for something easier to clean, that screams 'sensible young mum'. I just need a pair of linen pants and I'm set. But seriously, I picked these up at my local Windsor Smith store for $44.95 (currently available at the outlet store for $54) and they fit all my requirements. White and brown (check), flat (check), minimal buckles (check), cushioned (check, check, and more check). So look out summer, Amelia's got a wardrobe full of floral dresses and a pair of flat shoes and I'm not afraid to wear any of them.

006: attempts at using fashion to impress boys

Reading my subject, perhaps therein lies the problem. But that's another problem to address at another time. The short story is that there is a guy that looks like an extra our of Sons of Anarchy and gee golly gosh, while our shifts cross over on slightly Friday afternoons, I'm going to try and get him to notice me. Strategy:
This Silence and Noise Studded Sweater from Urban Outfitters is just the right amount of rock and or roll without loosing my indie sensibilities. I mean, let's not go crazy, most of my wardrobe is floral. I purchased this is an ivory colour on sale for $20 and it's kind of amazing. The rounded hem sits slightly higher at the front and is by no way crop-topish. The studs aren't in-your-face, gonna-lose-an-eye, but more like something a biker's classy old lady would wear. For work, I paired it with this Warehouse Floral Blouse (because if my 'using fashion to impress said boy' actually worked, he needs to know that underneath this cool, rock and or roll exterior, there is, like, a ridiculous amount of floral and penny-loafers happening). On sale for $37 at ASOS, yo. This combination was the brain child of six in the morning me and sometimes six in the morning me is on the money, but sometimes it's not. Like life, it's one big ol' game of risk.
Oh, and the SOA extra? Last week he wore flannel and a leather vest and his Harley was parked outside and his beard was making me swoon (and provided a weeks worth of fantasies, my oh my). This week he looked less bulky and more unkempt and it was just a basic tee and cargo shorts and the bike was MIA. Clearly I'd romanticized it too much to the point where I was left disappointed.
And did my attempt at using fashion to impress boys work?
Not in the slightest. *sigh*

005: i love Jeff Mangum so much that I...

...bought this necklace off etsy and wear it at least once a week and maybe I want to be buried in it or have it tattooed on my arm*. But realistically not, as this is all rather dramatic for a Sunday afternoon. But the point of this post is that I bought this necklace off etsy for $26 and while I have replaced the clasp once, I still adore this almost as much as his music. Get on it, yo.
*the tattoo part of this might not be such an exaggeration, now that I think about it...

004: pretty in pink
Wednesday, August 29, 2012 4:57 AM
I've decided I want to try dip dying the ends of my hair. In fact, it's almost become my mission in life. I figured, what the hey, I have a pretty relaxed office dress code and I'll try something temporary before going all the permanent way. I've done about an afternoon of research, spent about $60, and I think I have all the materials I need in order to achieve this without permanency/scaring my mother.
I'm going to credit The Beauty Department with the multitude of suggestions and helpful facts. I would like to also credit my google skills for helping me find the products needed in Australian online beauty/hair stores. In the end, I bought two.
From one of my favourite Australian based beauty websites, Adore Beauty, I purchased the Kevin Murphy Color Bug, which is basically a powder you put in your hair. I found a helpful tutorial, which I'm HOPING the actual application is as simple as it seems. This was only $24.95 and I was buying some peach nail polish so I figured what the hey. Let's give this a go.
The aforementioned Beauty Department alerted me to the existence of Davines Alchemic “Red”, a colouring conditioner that turns light to medium hair a temporary pale pink. UM, YES. I purchased this from salonstyle, which I've never bought anything from, so we'll see how it goes. The product itself was only $35.96 and I probably could have shopped around for a better bargain, but it's getting late and I need to be up early. Once again, it's not permanent. But you never know. I could end up getting it done for real! I'm so excited for this adventure, you have no idea.

[today I am coveting...] Erica Weiner Jewelry

I love random jewelry. I don't own a lot of expensive jewelry; my main reason for this being that I am pretty fickle and very careless and I tend to lose as much as I break. My most expensive piece is a $70 antique monocle. This should say a lot about me, really.
Erica Weiner Jewelry has an awesome combination of quirk and antique. Prices are quite friendly, but fall into my; when I get paid I'll have another gander. Yep, when considering my finances, I throw around words like gander. These kind of words are not to be used lightly. I have several stores like this bookmarked; it's hard for me to buy jewelry, because, yeah, I'm picky. I like it to be unique, perhaps a conversation starter. I once had this plastic necklace of a working viewfinder-esq camera, which had all these really catholic pictures of the Virgin Mary and the baby Jesus in it. It was flippin' ace. When I met Hellogoodbye, they were all pretty enthralled with it. Unfortunately it broke a long time ago and I don't think I have it anymore, but it was truly incredible.
But Erica Weiner Jewelry. They have these gorgeous lockets with lyrics on then that I'm loving. The R.Kelly one is amazing. And I'm leaning heavily towards buying their Cosmonaut Necklace, which, at $80, is pretty affordable. The Russian text translates to "Star City", which was the name of the area that was home to the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. Being the space fanatic that I am*, this baby is up my alley and I'm about 80% certain that come Tuesday evening, I will be hitting ADD TO CART and throwing around some serious YAYs.
* Space and dinosaurs currently seem to be my jam. It's like my interests have become that of an eight year old. Ah, childhood innocence. How I am trying so hard to hold onto you.

003: you had me at Kevin Devine
1:11 AM
When I'm sick I buy music. Buy being a term used loosely amongst these base-salary parts. But it's a system I have. When I'm feeling sad I buy books. When I'm bored I buy DVDs. When I'm sick, I buy music. The Sound Supply offers the combination of a mix-bag selection at an affordable price. 10 albums for $15. Sounds great, yeah? (YEAH.)
This is the forth drop (I've got on board at drop two), with artists such as Vivian Girls, Civil Twilight, Mason Jennings, and Kevin Devine (oh my heart!). Since I don't listen to the radio and don't read as many music blogs as I should, this is a great chance to discover new bands (well, new to me) and rediscover old ones alike.
The best of both worlds, baby, the best of both.
